After helping her childhood boyfriend - Chad - bring the firewood into the house, he follows her into the kitchen where Kej’s mom has made them both some hot chocolate (before excusing herself and leaving the two of them alone).
The conversation comes easily, just as it had all of those years ago. Kej fills Chad in on what she’s been doing in the big city (he always knew she’d make it) and he tells her about how he’s taking over the family business.
He asks if she ever regrets leaving, and she asks if he ever regrets staying. They both say no, but feel thoughts unsaid hang between them.
Kej asks what he thinks about her family selling the home. He talks about the passing of the torch and how sometimes people need to do what’s best for them, not what others think they should do.
It’s too bad he didn’t just agree with her because she definitely was 2-3 smooth lines away from kissing him, but when he sides with her parents she tells him to leave and he does, reluctantly.
As soon as he goes she regrets it.
She goes to her favorite room in the house from when she was a kid…
The upstairs parlor with the big picture window, it always felt so beautiful.
The front drawing room with the big picture window, it always felt so cozy.
